Note on above window function setup:
I tried (instead of downloading album Lateralus on the web) to cd rip the Lateralus album myself with my own copy. I run an custom build msi desktop and it has no cd drive so i had to use another computer that had one that wasnt in my room. so moreso i used freac (i run linux on my msi desktop) windows version on this other computer with cd drive and cd ripped my Lateralus copy with Level 8 FLAC compression and Signal Processing Options (in following order): Format Converter: Integer 24 -- Sample Rate Converter: 96000
Now i used my usb cable for my nw-a55 player and copied the ripped and converted files from the windows freac converted files to the player and walked upstairs and copied the files from the player again to the msi desktop (running linux) and did another conversion with the above window function list with linux64-freac-v1.1appimage-release with flac-v1.3.3 encoder and with the following options so you know what i tried out:
The Sample format was set to maximum blocksize
The Signal processing window was filled with the above window list (copied and pasted once - no more, only one paste) and all other option bars were filled to the max. no exaustive model search (because it would take forever) and no optimized quantized precision (because it would take forever)
the Signal Processing DSP settings were set to only - Sample Rate Coverter: 96000 and nothing more (no format converter option was placed in line in the option setup because of quality issues i realised during some experiments - you get a ton of white noise when using Sample Format Conversion - Integer 24 when you encode so i get a little iffy about it so i didnt use it for this re-encoding on the linux desktop over the ripped files i just chose the Sample Format Converter for the rip on the windows computer because i wanted to be extra prudent).
After the encoding the god damn quality was really damn good and i couldnt believe it. it was the best sounding lateralus encoding i ever did because somehow i simply ripped my own copy of the cd instead of downloading like "REMASTERED" copies or whatever because i trusted it somehow. Not the real case for quality when downloading from the internet. I must say i was surprised that my encodings from the cdrip of my own cd copy was was better and clearer than the internet version some people were selling on torrent sites i picked out. so there you go.... if you want try the above settings but be careful about using the Sample Format Converter in freac encoder when you rip or re-encode the ripped files with signal functions because i do realize im getting a lot of unwanted white noise but it seems ok for now. i might get out of my lazy spot and try another rip without the Sample Format Converter option just use the Sample Rate Converter only for the cdrip - that will make a difference about the white noise but if you dont like the quality somehow try different options yourself. all i know is the internet download are god damn lies and ripping your own copy of the cd content i definitely surprisingly high quality result for listening and im so glad i found my copy in my closet and ripped it myself for encoding. This encoding is making me very happy and im so glad it really worked. the quality is really damn good.
